Future proof your recruitment

We hear on all sides about how a shortage of qualified and licenced HGV drivers is causing disruption to supply chains.

The recruitment shortfall is so serious that the UK government recently sent out a letter from the Department of Transport to the nearly 1 million licenced HGV drivers who have left the industry, as a direct result of Brexit and the COVID-19 pandemic, to encourage them to return. The letter openly asks those who have stopped driving HGVs to reconsider and to make the most of an opportunity where working conditions and renumeration levels are much improved.

Avail Technologies, the creators of a driver recruitment platform and app designed specifically for hauliers and Class 1 and Class 2 HGV license holders is already seeing a surge in registrations as a result of the letter.  Their highly successful, Avail driver app, works by streamlining communications between drivers and employers.

That the platform is on target to achieve 20,000 registered users by the end of the year shows not only that the app is an extremely helpful ‘tool’ in enabling drivers and hauliers to create effective and cost-efficient working relationships, but also, that the sheer volume of signups proves that there are many Class 1 and Class 2 HGV license holders out there actively looking for work.

The app is simple to use for drivers and very cost-effective for employers as it cuts out agency fees. Employers simply post a job on the platform, which will then be sent out to all appropriately experienced and qualified drivers.

A driver will then receive notifications of new work as it comes in, on the app wherever they happen to be and apply for any they like the look off with just a few taps on the screen of their smartphone. So effective is the platform and app that Logistics UK has appointed Avail as their official affinity partner for HGV driver recruitment, and listed them. as one of five officially recognised “HGV Driver Job Opportunities” that they promote.

Steven Rogers, Head of Marketing for Avail, commenting on the appointment from Logistics UK, said: “We were thrilled to have Logistics UK give us their seal of approval”

As part of the drive to improve standards throughout the industry, the Avail driver app enables drivers to rate hauliers, whilst also allowing hauliers to rate drivers. As an inevitable result, the best hauliers will attract the best drivers, and the best drivers will be attractive to those hauliers. In other words, each time a driver and haulier deliver exactly on all aspects of any contract, the more their reputations will grow.  Additionally, without agency fees, hauliers can offer attractive rates to attract maximum responses via the app, while through drivers spreading the word a sense of ‘community’ is developing, attracting more and more hauliers to register with Avail.

Avail isn’t a traditional driver recruitment agency, but a temporary driver solution that matches temporary HGV drivers with operators for a set low fee of £7.50 per driver per day through their platform and which is endorsed by Logistics UK.
